The Veolia Water Trust exists for:
- the relief of poverty, need, hardship or distress particularly among those who are unable to meet or pay charges for the supply of water and / or sewerage services provided to premises used or occupied by them and
- the prevention and relief of poverty by educating the public in relation to debt awareness and prevention
To help facilitate the achievement of its mission the trust has identified four strategic aims:
- To administer a grants programme aimed at reducing water debt for individuals and families experiencing poverty and hardship and to make a limited number of grants where these greatly enhance quality of life and / or form part of a sustainable package to increase financial stability.
- To increase and improve independent money advice services and education thereby enabling greater opportunity to resolve debt problems in the long term and also to support applications to the trust where need is identified.
- To facilitate debt prevention work aimed at raising individuals' awareness of personal financial rights and responsibilities.
- To work with other trusts and organisations to support a network of trust funds throughout the UK, encouraging good practice and consistency of approach.
